From December 3rd to 4th, a delegation headed by Prof. Huang Youfang, President of Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) visited Wartsila in Finland. Mr. Atte Palomaki, Executive Vice President of Wartsila and Mr. John Nyfors, Director Finance & Business Control met with the delegation. The two sides talked about the international cooperation related to talent cultivation, scientific research and personnel exchange.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the close cooperation before and look forward the better future. President Huang Youfang said that SMU has made a lot of achievements in talent cultivation, scientific research, international cooperation and exchanges. It’s really our hope to further enhance the level of school development by deepening cooperation and exchanges with world-class companies.

On behalf of Wartsila, Mr. Atte Palomaki extended his warm welcome to the delegation. He said Wartsila attaches great importance to the cooperation and exchange with universities in China. Especially the cooperation with SMU, a well-known maritime university in China, will play an important role in Wartsila's promotion of brand awareness, corporate culture, technology research and development, etc. Wartsila is willing to conduct more in-depth exchanges and cooperation with SMU on these aspects.

Wartsila is a world-renowned ship power and energy production company with a history of 185 years. Wartsila China is headquartered in Shanghai. In recent years, it has carried out a lot of cooperation with the Merchant Marine College of SMU in laboratory construction, student scholarships and internship.

From December 6 to 7, President Huang Youfang visited ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL). Ms. Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues, President of ISCTE-IUL met with the delegation. The two sides discussed and exchanged views on the master's degree training program, teachers and students exchanges, laboratory construction, scientific research, etc.

President Huang Youfang introduced the development of SMU. He said that, SMU and ISCTE-IUL has carried out fruitful cooperation in talent cultivation, academic exchange, cultural exchange and other aspects. The visit will further strengthen the cooperation for shared benefits.

Ms. Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues extended her warmly welcome to the delegation. She is glad to see the cooperation achievements have been made between ISCTE-IUL and SMU, which are important to the development of two sides. She said ISCTE-IUL is willing to carry out diversified exchange and cooperation with SMU.

In order to further expand and deepen the joint training of doctoral students in the two universities, President Huang Youfang and Ms. Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues signed the training agreement for SMU - ISCTE-IUL doctoral degree.

During the visit, the delegation visited the teaching facilities and laboratories of ISCTE-IUL. They also talked with the students from SMU and learned their study and living situation.

ISCTE-IUL is a public institution of university education created in 1972. In recent years, ISCTE-IUL has carried out in-depth cooperation with the Institute of Logistics Science and Engineering of SMU in the joint training program of double master degrees, academic research, teacher exchange, etc.
