1. Program review

Shanghai Summer school (African program), sponsored by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and held by SMU. The program offers African students the opportunity to learn Chinese language and culture, thus enhancing their interest and understanding in China and Chinese culture. Moreover, it will also deepen the relationship between Chinese universities and African universities so as to create better opportunity for further mutual exchanges and cooperation.

The curriculum of the program is composed of Academic courses and Chinese language courses. Academic courses focus on Chinese Culture and Tradition, Chinese Economy, and Chinese Social and Legal Systems, with all courses taught in English by our outstanding scholars. Chinese language course features Chinese spoken language and business Chinese for future economic and logistic professions. In addition, extracurricular activities are offered to African students in order to help them learn more about Shanghai and China such as local culture experience, Chinese culture experience and port-related sites experience, etc.           

2.  Program features:

1. Specially-tailored full-English lectures for international students;
2.  An opportunity to learn Chinese language and business Chinese;
3. Experience Chinese culture and visit famous historical spots will be provided;
4. On-campus accommodation;

3.  Program Duration: 4 weeks, from June 19th to July 14th, 2017 

4.  Required documents from candidates:

• Application Form for International Students at Shanghai Maritime University

(Please print the required information.)

• Latest transcript in your current school / college
• Photocopy of valid passport
• Passport-size photo (digital and printed)

        
Deadline for application: May 30, 2017

5. Fee: students ONLY need to pay for the international flights.

     Students will be considered as a formal candidate ONLY after the flight itinerary is provided.

Shanghai Municipal Education Commission will SPONSOR fees including tuition, registration fee, books and materials. Free on-campus student dormitory (double room) will be provided. A certain amount of cash will also be provided for students’ meals during the one month.

SMU will provide free transfer from airport to university on arrival & departure and ticket/transportation/meal for all scheduled visits.
